Edinburgh, lassies!

Last weekend, I went to Scotland to visit Sarah. It was a great experience! Edin-barrah is a beautiful, fun city with lots to do. It was also nice going from rainy, cloudy London to drier air and clear, sunny skies.

I was surprised at how commercialized the city was. Starbucks and McDonalds are all over the place. Given that Edinburgh is the capital city, though, I shouldn’t be too shocked.

On Saturday, my first night, we went to two bar/pubs and met some of Sarah’s friends. I fell in love with Lambic (delicious Belgian beer. it tastes like juice) and also drank some pear cider. The night life of Edinburgh seems really cool with tons of pubs and bars to choose from. Wish I was there to experience more of it!

The next day was filled with sightseeing. We saw St. Giles Cathedral, Edinburgh Castle, the Royal Mile, St. Anthony’s Chapel (I climbed a damn hill. hell yeah!), and some monuments/pretty sights. Edinburgh is perfect for simply absorbing the beautiful surroundings. The water is also clear too - ha. Clean water? What a concept. We walked about four miles that day!

Monday afternoon we had lunch at the Elephant House, dubbed to be the birthplace of Harry Potter. JK Rowling apparently started writing the HP series in this cafe. So exciting! Definitely nerded out about that. Afterwards we went to the Scottish museum, which was a bit of a buzzkill. Conclusion: Scotland is a great place but has a yawn-tastic history. that’s right. I said it. (:
