WARNING: the following is a yawn-tastical post...
Strangely enough, my performance was best in what I considered to be my hardest class. Well, more like the class that was SALTY BALLS to study for. Somehow I feel like this year validated my intelligence and ability to succeed on my own. For the first time in my life, the prospect of failure could not be ruled out. There would be no cushion of a caring professor or previous exam grades to keep me...

this isn't goodbye... it's see ya later
14 June 2010. I had my last final today, went for Thai, froyo-ed, drank, and said some painful goodbyes. After dinner I spent about 3 hours packing up my life and showering. This is my last night sleeping in this room. The walls are empty and all my calming Asian decorations have been taken down.

past the two week mark...
meh :( 13 days. I’m starting to get really sad. luckily there will be enough people working in New York so that saying goodbye won’t be the worst thing in the world, but it’s the LSE/GC/London experience we’ll never have again that depresses me. I’ve loved London from the minute I set foot in it, and I’m loving it even more just as I’m getting ready to...

Italia & Greece
In a nutshell, our spring break trip to Italy and Greece was incredible. We beasted through Venice, Florence, (made a pit stop in gorgeous Tuscany) Rome, Athens, and… not Santorini. I’ll explain that later.
I won’t go in depth about all the sites/art we saw (lets be honest, no one cares) so an overview should suffice. Venice was beautiful with its intricate streets and tiny...
MIA - Dublin/Copenhagen
I haven’t blogged since Barcelona?! wow…
After BCN, I took a trip to Dublin (for St. Patty’s!) and then Copenhagen to visit my favorite redhead. Both trips were wonderful. Dublin was pure insanity and I had the opportunity to meet some interesting people. The Irish are generally super friendly, especially when plastered. I honestly would’ve never taken the trip if it...

Barcelona, Spain
Where do I even begin? I don’t play favorites, but Barcelona was hands down the most memorable trip I have taken thus far. Spending the weekend there made me even more excited about my upcoming spring break trip to Italy and Greece. Since it was one of the top places on my list to visit in Europe, I am thrilled I had the opportunity to spend time there. Practicing my Spanish also turned out...

Edinburgh, lassies!
Last weekend, I went to Scotland to visit Sarah. It was a great experience! Edin-barrah is a beautiful, fun city with lots to do. It was also nice going from rainy, cloudy London to drier air and clear, sunny skies.
I was surprised at how commercialized the city was. Starbucks and McDonalds are all over the place. Given that Edinburgh is the capital city, though, I shouldn’t be too...
Updates and the City of Bath
The last few weeks have been insane, stressful, and busy. People are right when they say Lent term at LSE is a shitshow. I’m trying to figure out my life careerwise while planning travels and keeping up with schoolwork. Elena visited last week too, which was such a blast! I can’t believe we hadn’t seen each other since May.
I leave for Edinburgh on Saturday. Super excited!

St. Patrick’s Day week - Dublin, Ireland with LSE peeps
so. excited. This term is going to be killer with my workload, but I don’t care. THIS IS ALL GOING TO WORK OUT IN THE END.
Tentative spring break plans - Take over Italy and Greece, visit Lydia in Copenhagen...
Ireland & beyond...
booked my ticket for DUBLIN for St. Patrick’s day! This is super far in advance, but I’m incredibly excited
I know I’m really bad at updating this thing… but things for the most part have been going great. I love London/LSE and all it has to offer academically and socially. I’m even more excited about booking more weekend trips and a potential spring break vacation...

woah.
Last week of class this term?! How did this.. happen? This semester literally flew by. Definitely not ready to leave so soon, but I am super excited to be home for a month before heading back. I plan on sleeping 12 hours a night, shop till I drop, and enjoy time with familia and friends :)
unfortunately, I’ll have work to do as well :[ a paper, presentation, and graded mock exam. ugh.

PARIS!
The city of loooove! and a city that smells of cigarettes and urine. haha. Seriously… I had a wonderful weekend in Paris, but it smells pretty funky.
We took a Eurostar train bright and early on Friday morning (great transport experience. it pwns Amtrak in every way) with our guide and a group of people. Immediately after arriving at Gard du Nord, we went on a bus tour to see all the major...
Smith-sick
I have been adjusting in London exceptionally well (by my standards, at least) considering homesickness hits me very easily. For the past couple of days I’ve been feeling pretty Smithsick. There are so many things I love about this school, but Smith is a VERY unique place and it will always have a special place in my heart. Sounds cheesy, but it’s true!
THINGS I MISS.

travels
I’m surprised this wasn’t blogged before, but my trips to Paris and Geneva are officially booked! I’ll be in Paris the weekend of 6 November and Geneva the weekend after. Luckily, Gator was AMAZING and sent me a list of things in Geneva she loves, so hopefully my friends and I will be able to check some of those places out :)
This past weekend we went on an excursion to...
Giving thanks
Thanksgiving isn’t for another month, but today I started to feel these random pangs of emotional gratitude for all the positive things I have in my life. The past few days have been weird and stressful given that Smith-sickness has hit and classes are becoming overwhelming, but the more I think about it, the more incredibly lucky I feel to have so many wonderful people and opportunities in...
Adventure weekend
Just got back from a weekend in the middle of nowhere… My study abroad program took us on an outdoorsy weekend trip to the northwestern region of England, about 7ish hours away from London. Though the bus ride was painfully long and uncomfortable, I had a pretty good time exploring the outdoors, sightseeing, breathing fresh air, etc… It was great being in a part of England that...
academia
woooah I haven’t tumbl’d in what feels like forever. Anyway, this past week was the first week of lecture. It was… an experience. Mind you, I come from a private liberal arts college with 2500 students, so attending a university with more post-graduates than undergrads is a pretty new concept. Some general things, good and bad, I have noticed so far:
The amount of people in one...

I’m trying to get used to the “real” way of writing dates (lol, another petty adjustment) so I don’t mess up on something big in the future :P
Today, some friends and I walked to the school for “induction,” aka 45 minutes of people talking to us about general information about LSE and the students’ union. I have never been to an orientation this huge. It...
series of mild culture shocks
England isn’t extremely different from the US, but the experience is still pretty eye-opening for me.
Sometimes I find it kind of hard to understand people (fml) partly from their accents and even more from their low voices! I know Americans speak incredibly loudly all the time, and I’m probably used to that…but still.
Another culture shock for me was the amount of Indian...
p-p-p-party
Last night was my first clubbing experience in London. After seeing some lame places we ended up going to Oxygen, which is a 3-level bar/club. At first the building was empty (especially the dance floor) but within an hour, the place was PACKED. I don’t think I’ve ever been to such a crowded party in my life. The drinks were delicious too, which is A+ One of the bartenders was super...
arrival!
I arrived in London 2 days ago and have finally found a place with free Wi-Fi!
So far things are going fabulously. I have fallen in love with the city (well, whatever I’ve seen so far) London is beautiful and the small buildings make this large city look very quaint. It will take a LONG time to get adjusted to the curvy confusing roads, different neighborhoods, and strange road signs but...

POTENTIAL PACKING LIST
clothing
4 pairs of jeans
1 pair of slacks and pink blouse
3 dresses (1 formal, 2 casual)
Grey boots, brown boots, grey flats, brown flats(?), flip flops for shower, one pair of sandals, coral heels(?) This might be way too much. I might eventually toss the grey boots (sadly) because they’re pretty worn out at the bottom.
All undergarments, 8 or so pairs of socks
2 pairs of tights...

G'Day!
I’ll be studying abroad at the London School of Economics and Political Science this year. This blog is a great way of mapping out my adventures & travels in London as well as keeping all my close friends updated. I will be leaving sometime in September, so more intensive updates will come then :D
